Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public] Empty Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public]

Auguste had only just gotten the news from his father. A present had arrived for him. It was not something useful, no, it wasn't even anything that Auguste could possibly have wanted. Auguste's father did not at all understand his son, just how Auguste did not at all understand his father. After the Mexican got arrested, Auguste had sent letters asking for wine. He did not get wine. He got some girl from Indochina. He could get women on his own. He could get friends on his own. He did not need his father to send these Indochinese women by mail.

His father did specify what she was best used for. She wore pretty clothing and danced. The choreographer of the carnival did not allow Auguste to see her until she was ready to dance for him. It was to be a complete surprise. She was to perform for Auguste shortly after her arrival. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunate, that day happened to be today. There was nobody at the carnival today. This was to be a private showing, the girl was to show off to her new Master. She was treated like a trained animal. Auguste knew this, but he did nothing to right the wrongs.

The man had other things to do, he was busy, he liked to make himself busy. He didn't want to be here. Yet here he was, sitting before the closed curtain. He was used to watching these sorts of things. Not exotic dancing, but all the other pretentious shows. He was upper-class. The upper-class loved suffering through these things.

A finger tapped on the chair, and he waited for the show to both begin and finish. Today was a nice day, one of the few nice days he had off. He planned to go hunting. But that was obviously not going to happen.

((Also, the circus isn't closed off or anything, so people can come in. And Louis XIV's face here is Auguste's face in this post- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL6EtdH3bho ALSO, I hope i don't run anyone over. :l I DIDN'T WANT TO WAIT--))

((PAH PAH POKERFACE PAH PAH POKERFACCEEE--))

Chankrisna had been there for a while, and now she was supposed to see the head manager. Well, dance for him. Which she was happy about, finally someone who actually would know the value of her culture.

And afterwards she could get this whole 'freak' thing sorted out. She was not one of those. But she was put with those. It had to be rectified. As long as they didn't find out about her... Anatomy situation. Or, changing anatomy.

She sat patiently as the idiot makeup 'artists' attempted to weave her hair through her headdress properly so it would stay. Finally it did, and she resolved to do the rest of her makeup herself. If they had done it, it would be disaster to say the least.

That finished, she took her place behind the curtain and twitched her hand once to signal the start of the music-- real Khmer music this time. It filled all of her senses and prepared her for The Preah Theong-Neang Neak, the story of the Nagin princess and the Brahmin. How appropriate.

The curtain opened and she began the dance, becoming the apsara, the heavenly female spirits so prized in her culture that great palaces were carved around their forms. She didn't have to hope that he would be in awe. He just would.

Auguste appreciated beauty. He appreciated greatness submitting to him. He appreciated women. He appreciated the orient. He appreciated the grandeur that this woman tried to project. However, 10 minutes into this, and he did not appreciate it. The music was beginning to grate on his nerves. The dancing, he had already grown weary of it. This was way too slow. He had no idea how long this would last. He had no idea how long this could possibly last. Hopefully, it would not take more than an hour.

He would stick through it all. His expression was blank. He did not need to show any sign of approval. His face reflected no emotions. All he projected, was that he was not amused. He showed that he did not like this act. She was not good enough for him. In this scene, he felt some sort of deja vu. It could have been the countless ballets, dances, plays and operas he saw with his Uncle. It could have been from one of the dances he visited in his dreams. Of course, they were generally much more interesting than this.

He said nothing, he did nothing, as he watched her slowly move. He did not even take time to move or yawn. He just stared on. Eyes intent, though he was very obviously, not at all interested. He was not watching this because he wanted to. He was watching this because he had to.

Every few minutes she would catch glimpses of him.

He wasn't enjoying it. She tried her best, and he wasn't even fazed.

Finally the dance ended, and she took a bow. Still no reaction from him. Not waiting for him to address her, she padded off the stage, the way she walked as graceful as any dance. She bowed again with a smile. "I am pleased to finally meet you, Lok Bourbon." Of course there was another thing on her mind. "If you would allow it, I'd like to talk to you about an important matter..."

She had yet to grasp the concept of being 'owned' by anyone. She had grown up rich, and thought it carried with her always.

Finally, it was over. His face did not change throughout the entire dance. If she was watching him, she probably knew what he thought of her dance. Auguste would have to make the best of this gift.

The girl came to address him. Of course, he could not say that he was completely unimpressed. He did not say a word, though she spoke to him. His hand moved to lift up her chin. He wanted to get a good look at her face. He had to evaluate her beauty, like he would when judging the dogs from the breeder. He had to spend a few minutes looking her over. There was some sense of superiority that he projected, while looking at her. He was making it very clear that she now existed to serve him. Her face was moved around, Auguste had to get each angle of it. His eyes flickered down to her costume. Auguste did have a love for the orient, the exotic, and the beautiful. This girl fit all of these categories.

His hand went off from her face, and he turned to the nervous choreographer. "This dance is too slow as is. Speed it up, or tell my father to send more of her type. There is not enough going on, with only one person."

Auguste had seemed as if he was going to ignore the Khmer girl completely. But, he finally spoke up to her. He did not bother to smile. The Frenchman did not need to charm this girl. He charmed people so he could have better control over them. He already had control over this girl. He owned her.

"If it's important, then speak up and speak quickly. I am busy today."

((OMG that's so weird XD))

She hadn't waited for an answer for even one minute before he took her chin and assessed her looks. For a moment she was too surprised to even think. Then she realized what was happening, and her face quickly changed from surprise to perturbation. But seeing his expression she was almost afraid to say anything. The domineering aura he sent out far beat down her anger.

Beat it down, but didn't snuff it out completely. 'More of her type'? Too slow? Instead of making her think how she could possibly be treated this way, she started thinking of why. Maybe she was sent there for a reason other than what she was told.

"U-Uh... I wanted to ask... Or inform... I believe I was put in the wrong place... I don't think I should be... With the... Uh... Freaks..." Usually she had such charisma, but his forwardness caught her extremely off guard.

Why would they put her with the freaks? They would not place one of the King's mistresses in some Parisian whorehouse. They would not place Auguste's gift with those monsters. She was his property. The offense to her, was just as much an offense to Auguste. His expression showed the slightest jolt of surprise, the look died away very quickly. He had no idea. He had no idea why they would even dare put her with the freaks. Auguste did not know the freakish identity of the nagin. His father did not mention that in his letter. Auguste certainly could not tell it by looking.

Auguste never visited the freaks for one reason. They terrified him. They could revolt against him. This girl belonged to Auguste, she could easily be used by them, against him. He didn't want her to associate with them. There was too much risk in that.

The way he stared at her for so long and so hard, gave the sense that he disagreed. However, he did not disagree with her at all. "You were put in the wrong place." He snapped. These people he worked with were morons. Complete morons.

"I'll make sure you're given your own car. What is the name of the man that put you in the car of freaks. You are my private property, you are not to mingle with the scum of the circus. Is that understood?"

She didn't know how to get her bearings with this man. He look surprised for a moment, and then continued his half glare at her. She wasn't going to stand for sleeping on a rotted wooden floor anymore.

And finally, it seemed he agreed (though why did it seem like he was faulting her for it?). A relieved smile spread over her face. She would get her own comfortable car, one that hopefully wouldn't break in the instance she became other than human. "Thank you so--"

Wait. Private property?

The smile dropped and she stepped away. "I am no one's property." She warned. "I was told I was sent here as a delegate."

"You were obviously lied to." A glare followed that statement. "I apologize if the man who captured you said otherwise. I'd think that you would have been informed before our meeting. Or it would have been easy enough to figure out on your own. I assumed you wouldn't be stupid enough to believe your captors words. You belong to me, now." Incompetence followed incompetence by the carnival workers. Overall, they were an unskilled and stupid group of people.

He didn't really want to explain this to her. She would be much better off as Auguste's property than carnival property. If she didn't realize that, then her suffering would be her own fault.

"As I said, I'll arrange someone to get you a car. You will get a new dance instructor, as well. You'll spend most of your time practicing with them." Auguste would schedule some nightly visits with her. However, not tonight. He promised Franze he'd sleep with her tonight. "Unless you have any other talents-" He really didn't know what to do with this gift.

"I...." Captured? It was all coming back to her, now. The language barrier had filtered the sarcasm of those who had taken her from her country. That 'of course, only the best in our country get to sleep in the box. It's an honor reserved for foreign dignitaries' had all been mocking. But she believed it, for some reason. More than being mad at her captors, she was mad with herself.

She was stuck in a foreign place with no real contacts except this man, who was now her owner. And though she shuddered at the thought, it was more beneficial for her to agree to it than to fight it.

Two things she was sure of. She wasn't going to sleep with him, and she was never going to take lessons from a dance instructor. Hanging the Apsara was a cardinal sin, and she would be loathe to learn another.

Forcing a smile to her face, she nodded and bowed, palms together, once again. "Yes, I understand, now. Thank you for your kindness."

If worst came to worst, she always had tricks up her sleeve. One was an 8 foot long tail.

He nodded. He was completely indifferent to her problems. "I'm not sure if you've been in this position before- but I'd advise you to try and stay on my good side." He paused. "The only thing keeping you away from the freaks is me." A finger drew to lift up her chin, once more.

"And you are to always look up to me. Us European Gods, deserve a different kind of respect than your Asian ones." His hand dropped from her face. Turning away, without warning, he left. Without comment on her dancing, without praise, without anything.

Unfortunately, it was too late to hunt. It was too late for anything. He had promised Franze a date this evening. He had ignored her for long enough, her independence could be dangerous.

At the degradation of her religion she was struggling not to spit on his face. But she knew she couldn't. For one: he was right about everything else. And if she was openly malicious it would only prove the 'indigenous barbarism' these people thought they all had.

Then, he was gone. And she was pulled away by some carnival hands, hopefully to get her own car.

Fränze however, would not be afraid to spit in his face. Left to her own devices, she'd been thinking about what that man Itakshir had said. He may not have really meant it but it rang true with her. There was going to be an ultimatum. Although she was so determined, she shook slightly. She was still afraid, like a caged animal that wanted to attack but wasn't sure how. What if he left her? The fears crept in.

She pushed them away when he approached her on a chair outside her tent, smoke wafting from the ebony cigarette holder in her hand. She raised her eyes to him. "I don't think I'm very happy, Auguste."

It turned out Franze had not died an accident, as Auguste may have hoped. He smiled softly as he approached.

"I don't think I'm very happy, Auguste."

That came out before he could even give her a hello. He had gotten that from others, before. Women were so unreasonable. He sighed, but his smile did not waver.

"I'm sorry, Franze, I have been so busy lately." He leaned down to kiss her, being sure to snatch the cigarette from her, first. He snapped away, before she could grab it back. The holder was placed into his mouth, in imitation of her. It was meant to be a playful gesture. Hopefully, it would get her to stop being such a bitch. She really did seem in a bitch mood.

"I will make you happy then, yes? Right now. Let's go for a walk."

His gesture did bring a small smile to her face. It seemed she was right, it was hard to stay focused on what she was mad about. But, she would have to try. She was tired of being treated as less than he, less than a woman, and sometimes even less than human by him. Problem was, the other times she was treated like a princess. The constant changing of the two extremes could have made her sick.

On top of that, an example being currently, he never gave her a chance to voice her problems to him. But she would, this time. "Okay," She stood up, cigarrete in one hand, his hand in the other. "But while we walk I want to talk to you about something. Is that okay?" she would talk regardless.

"Of course that is fine, mon petit chou." He smiled, swooping down to kiss her head. He was willing to hear her what she had to say. If it was what it sounded like, it would be something about his lack of concern of affection. He would rather not change his ways for her. He probably wouldn't.

"Is something wrong-?" His arm wrapped around her. Girls liked it when guys showed off the fact that they were together. Auguste would have preferred if people didn't know, but as far as he knew, everyone knew that they were 'together.' "Hopefully you are not mad at me." A slight laugh escaped his lips. "I could not bear to have you mad at me. Always, I want to be in Franze's favour. It is like being in the favour of the Sun King, himself."

"Well..." She let go of his hand and twiddled her thumbs as she walked, an uncertain expression on her face. "I don't think... I don't think you really appreciate me like you should." She felt like she should be appreciated. Other people thought she was with alot.

She continued to walk in silence, stopping near a group of people, not looking at him. "...I know about them, you know."

Then, she raised her eyes to him, looking determined. "So... If you really do want to keep me around... You have to marry me." That would make her happy, she thought. The advice she was given she had severely twisted.

He was about to comment. He was about to act innocent, and pretend he didn't know what Franze was talking about. He was going to pretend he loved her.

Then for once- he could not fake his emotions anymore. His smile dropped. His always calm eyes grew wide and panicked. He had a hard time swallowing the lump of spit in his mouth.

"You have to marry me."

He stopped walking, as he tried to regain control of himself. That idea of marriage caught him completely off guard. The idea of marriage was something completely horrible to the man. He had never been married, himself, but for some reason the idea terrified him. It was not the idea of the commitment. He wouldn't even be commited in marriage. It was the control a wife could have over their husband. Marriage invoked awful memories. Marriage would leave Auguste destroyed and depressed.

"F-Franze---..." His voice came out shakey as he tried to feign another laugh. It did not sound so convincing. "Franze, we- we've only known each other for a month or so..." he rubbed the sweat that was forming on his brow. It was a hot day. "You're so young, we can wait a while..."

Ah. Finally she had gained footing, like a mountan climber that had just been dangling for so long, and suddenly found hope.

A more assured smile spread across her face. People were watching them. She was certain by his actions he didn't love her. If he said yes, she would make his married life a living hell for it. No skin off her bones. Just extra money and more control. Maybe she could be the one to cheat, then.

"Well, you say you love me nearly every day." She reasoned with a pout, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "One logically follows the other. Most people marry when they're in love." She shot down all of his rebuttals. Her final one was a masterpiece, she had to say.

"Why wait? You want me to wait until I'm too old to have children? This way we can have many." She probably wasn't even fertile. He didn't need to know. "Because I love you and you love me, mein Schätz."

And while she got back on to the mountain- Auguste fell off of it. His entire time working at the carnival, he never appeared us uncomposed as he did now. Other people were watching, and Auguste was showing them weakness. He tried to make himself out to be infallible, if others found out that he wasn't--

Suddenly, he felt so weak. He let someone else gain control of him. He let someone else make him weak. He had to do something to

He looked around to the various people who kept their eyes on the destructive couple. "Franze--" They could not stand in public anymore. He grabbed tight her thin, fragile arm. His whole hand could fit around it. It didn't occur to him, that his hand was wrapped tight enough it bruise and hurt her. At least, he still had physical power. That had a stronger effect than Franze would think.

"Franze- come on-" He whispered, dragging her off to her own house. He threw her into the room when they reached, and quickly shut the door behind them.

"Don't embarrass me like that, Franze!" He threw one of her fragile, and possibly precious items to the ground. It shattered on the ground. Franze was probably as easy to break. She was such a disgusting whore. Auguste had hated her before, but now, now he hated her even more. He was uncharacteristically angry now, as well. "You can love someone without marrying them! We're not ready for this, yet." he scoffed. "If you want children, then we can have them now!"

"You can't throw marriage around like this!" Marriage was a disgusting place for a man to be. Auguste had been engaged, before. He hardly remembered anything of that relationship, it was so disastrous. It, and the time following it was a time Auguste did not want to remember. The date of their break up coincided with the loss of Auguste's adoptive family, the date that Auguste's real father gained control of his son again. The fall of grace he had experienced after that-- He could never relive that.

For a moment, she was winning. She finally felt like she was worth something in his eyes-- it all went away with the sharp pain in her arm. All of a sudden she was dragged away from the safety of the public and back into her car. All of a sudden she wasn't so brave anymore.

She didn't register much but his yelling and the breaking of one of her glass figurines as she slammed into her shelf of souls. Immediately she cried; with anger, sadness... All of it.

She knew he didn't love her. Saying that children were such a small matter, being ashamed to talk in public with her-- she should have noticed before. She shoved him back as much as she could. "Oh, Like you even care about any of that?!"

She did not push him very far, but the shove back was aggressive enough that his anger instantly found it reasonable to be violent to her.

"Shut up, Franze!" He grabbed her arm again. He didn't want her getting away. She was crying now, to make herself seem the victim. He raised a hand up against her. He did not strike, but it would serve as a warning. If she didn't listen to him, he would.

His grip grew tighter, as he dragged the girl closer to him. "Franze-- you know I love you! Don't even fucking cry. Look at how you're treating me, your man! A wife would never treat their husband like this- I give you unconditional love- and you treat me like trash. I could just fire you now, Franze. I keep you here because I love you. I give you power because I love you!" His words were harsh and loud to overcome her crying. "Did you see how the others looked at us?! What do you think they think of us now! Do you want to go ask them?!" He moved the raised hand towards the door. "What do you think, Franze?!"

Nobody was as obsessed with their reputation as Auguste was. Auguste's anger was only a mask for his fear. He was showing a weakness to those he ruled. His stable source of control was becoming unstable. And the idea of marriage was shadowing over. This could very well have been a horror film.

"Stop fucking crying, Franze." He dropped her arm and open hand. "You have nothing to cry about. You did this all to yourself."

His yelling and her own fear had drowned ut the truth she knew in her mind. Hurriedly she wiped the tears from her eyes, apologizing while she blubbered and mumbled about how her arm was hurting.

She had never seen this side of him, nor did she expect it. Then, he leveled her treat with his own. If she was fired... Where would she go? Never mind that she used to run the entire place. Not to mention she had no idea where she would get another man. She needed that dependence like she needed oxygen. When one is born they learn very quickly that they need to breathe, and so was she taught that she could not survive on her own as a woman.

She was so shaken, though, that she dropped to her knees when he let go of her, gathering up her sobs just as well as the small glass pieces of the princess that was so thoughtlessly shattered on the floor. She couldn't put it back together, and it would never look the same if she did. "I'm sorry..." She mumbled; whether it was for the glass or the man, was unclear.

Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public] Empty Re: Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public]

His fear and anger had died away as soon as the girl had returned to her normal place of submission. It gave him such comfort to see her on the ground. There was so much relief in hearing her apology. He did not want her questioning her place in their relationship. Her place was set in stone. She was much less than him. She could not doubt this.

"Your arm doesn't hurt that bad-..." he muttered, he didn't bother to look at her as he stepped towards her closet. He looked around for a spare hanger, he found one, and left his jacket to hang. "Stop complaining." One quick glance was all he had to give her. The vest was removed shortly after the jacket. The buttons of his shirt were quickly undone. That also had to be hung up. He could not be seen with a wrinkled shirt.

"Get in bed...We'll make children." That was all he had to say, by the time he got in to the bed. "I love you- I want you to have my children. If that can make you happy..." He figured he would be gone in 9 months. Franze did not have to know that.

Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public] Empty Re: Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public]

she gathered the larger glass pieces in her hand and neatly returned them to a pile on the shelf where before they had been together. She didn't have the heart to throw it out. Her arm did still hurt, though she did as she was told.

He seemed so cold to her-- this wasn't what love really was, was it? Love was supposed to be unconditional, supportive... Well, love. Maybe all those cliches were lies, and she just had to adapt to this new feeling. He said it was real love.

"R-really?" She stammered, almost knocking more glass from the shelf. He didn't seem too enthused. Or that committed to being a father. But something weighed heavily on her mind-- that dream where she knew it was her who had let that infant die inside of her. She knew the real outcome would be similar. But for once, she wanted something that could really teach her what love was, something that could never threaten to leave. But she couldn't risk it. She was small, fragile, of she didn't kill it, it could kill her. She sat down next to him, but otherwise did nothing.

"I dont want to put you through that." If her child died then it was his child too. She still cared for him, but just needed to adapt to his moods.

Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public] Empty Re: Misunderstanding [Versailles/Public]

Auguste lifted her arm, his attention was much more focused on that now. There was a bruise growing, in the shape of the Frenchman's hands. He did have to feel a little guilty, even if this was Franze he had harmed. He'd emotionally abused numbers of women- but never physically. Franze had obviously gotten to him- gotten to the worst part of him.

"It's not that bad..." he stated, again. He needed the words only to reassure himself. It was that bad, but he didn't have to think that.

"You said you weren't happy... If a child would make you happy, we could have one." he muttered. He would normally give her affection in these intimate bed situations. He didn't even make eye contact with her. He was recovering from his fit. Auguste was always covered by a thick shell of lies and aristocratic charm. This shell was cracked. It took time to fill in these cracks. He had to cool off.

His eyes only then shifted to the girl's face. "You want to be a mother... I could be a father, if it meant your happiness." He had no idea that it would be her lack of fertility she was speaking of.
