It seemed like the only hard part of the expedition was finding clothes to wear. For Cosim, it was especially difficult, because even the largest suit there wasn't long enough to hide the shackles. Oh, well. He could take care of anyone that opposed to them dropping by without notice. He didnt really want to find his brother as much as destroy everything he held dear. But only when he'd done what they asked of him first.

One request from them was to get in. Well, that was easy. There was a fence around one area, (to keep people in, or out?) that had a sign that said 'keep out'. Well, that was a conundrum. It told him not to. So he shouldn't.

He just ripped the sign off and threw it into the dust behind them. Out of sight, out of mind. No more objections there. Grabbing two parts of the chicken wire with his hands, he pried the fence open. There seemed to be minimal security and minimal civilians in this part-- he wondered what it was. There were only a few carnival hands who looked like they couldn't care less. He held the fence open for the two of them before closing it back up and twisting the wires together again.

He felt quite proud of himself, though he didn't know if what he was doing was right or wrong. "Easy." Easy, even with the uncomfortable suit. They seemed to stick out as much as underage boys going to an adult movie. But... considering what section they were in, they fit in quite nicely.

His portion of the plan over with for now, he stood and stared at them, looking for more direction. He wasn't about to ruin things upon just arriving there. "...What now?"

They hadn't really thought this through.

Itakshir had likewise found difficulty with his clothes. He didn't own any shirts that wouldn't reveal his tattooed arms in one way or another--the only way of covering them completely would be to wear gloves, which would look extraordinarily stupid, he felt--so he'd had to opt with long sleeves and shoving his hands into his pockets whenever the need arose. No doubt his printed skin would be a dead giveaway that he wasn't one of the privileged guests. And then there was his hair, which, contrasted with his youthful face, made him all too noticeable. He'd jammed a knitted hat over it, but it still stuck out in places. In all, it wasn't a very good disguise, but hopefully it would pass.

Despite all that, though, he felt totally at ease. Now that they were safely in, he didn't see that there was any reason that things should go wrong.

"Sweet," he ducked inside the fence and gave the strongman the thumbs-up, "Good job, bro. Let's see..." He took a peek around the animal car that concealed their entrance, "It looks and smells like these are just the animal cars. Let's walk around and see where the people are at." He had no idea that the animals weren't the only ones here; that the 'freaks' were just around the corner, as well.

Eleri was content today, Cadfael was going to bring her fresh fish any moment now and she had manage to spray water all over a tubby little brat. She laughed when the mother overreacted and started screeching that her so had been poisoned. Swishing to and fro in her tank she leisurely did a back stroke admiring the view of the dust from her tank that had been set out in display. Till she noticed a rather distressing site, a large man tearing through the gate with his bare fists.

His muscles bulged around his shackles making her believe he was an escaped convict looking to find refuge in one of the cars. Such events had happened before, men thought they could take advantage of the poor freaks who had no guards or pimps to protect them. One such man even had the audacity to stick his hand in her tank and well he came back with three less fingers courtesy of her razor sharp teeth. She glared at the group, wishing they would make a move that they would surely regret. She swirled angrily in her tank like a circling shark aggressively encasing their prey. Her eyes never turning away from the group.

And Arash perhaps had a harder time than all of them. Where their problems could be hidden someway or another, Arash's disfigurements were on his face. A man with mostly missing eyebrows and burns across his face would not go unnoticed. He wore a hat to cover his choppy hair. Then finding an outfit was easy enough, he wore what he normally would when going out. He wore makeup when going on stage- he'd have to do it again here. His skin colour was not too different from his maman's, though he was a little darker. He used her makeup to aid the covering of the burns. As for the eyebrows, they would be difficult, but he figured that penciled eyebrows would look more normal than no eyebrows at all. He looked ridiculous from up close. However, from a distance, he looked remotly normal.

Arash was not as comfortable with the situation as Itakshir was. There were some people. Wasn't the entry a little too obvious?! Someone must have spotted them. Arash glanced around. They didn't even have an idea of what to do.

"Eh- look, look-" he grabbed Itakshir by the arm. He did not trust that man to be without some sort of leash in a situation like this. "We have to be very normal. Are we going to watch the show, or not? We could stay around back here- for some sabotage. No, we should watch some of the show first, to see their methods. Then we return here. Yes, okay. We'll just sneak into the tent and take a seat." Arash's plan was fairly easy, and fairly naive. Anyone could have come up with it- but Arash liked to make himself seem the boss.

"Don't talk to anyone, Itakshir-" and he paused, when he glanced behind him. There was some mutant in a giant bowl of water. Would she know their plans-

No, they were talking in Russian. Now it was the question of if she would tell anyone. Arash glanced at Cosim.

"Do something about her."

Was that a...person glaring at them? She may have been anticipating a glare back, but all she got was a confused expression.

He almost laughed when he looked at Arash. The man looked ridiculous. Well, now he could see where he got his mother's resemblance.

Do something about that... woman.....? What in the world was she? He wasnt going to touch anything he didn't know what it was, that was for sure. Instead of answering, he went up to the tank, trying not to look too much lest he get even more confused. "Uh... we aren't here to hurt anyone, unless anyone tries to hurt us. We're just.... looking around."

True enough.

He looked back to the two men, motioning for them to start scouting the cars out.

Itakshir wasn't listening. At all. He was already moving towards the tank as though in a trance, totally enraptured.

He'd never seen 'freaks' before, or even knew that such a thing existed. The ragtags just didn't have them like Mistique. So the natural conclusion that his sheltered islander, animist mind came up with was that he was looking at some sort of a goddess. After all, it wasn't only bears that he worshiped; fish were also high up on the list. He still believed that the world was held up on the back of a giant trout.

Shuffling forward to stand next to Cosim in front of the tank, hat already off and held between his hands humbly, he whispered, "Waka-ush Kamuy...?" The benevolent goddess of fresh water. Poor Itakshir was very, very distressed to see his deity trapped in a tank. Dropping to the ground to bow before her, he muttered fervently in his native tongue, voice somewhat choked.

Getting back to his feet, he shook Cosim by the sleeve and gestured at the insult to everything that was holy (in his mind), "Why are they keeping the water goddess as a prisoner??" As if the Transnistrian would know.

Five seconds in, and he'd already completely forgotten why they were there.

((He's so dumb, so dumb-- Irony? Waka-ush Kamuy was supposedly a skilled singer. XD))

Eleri clicked her teeth together contemplating what to do, all the other freaks had been moved in side at this time in order to reduce heat strokes, she was only left out because her she was already in a body of water.
She was mildly confused, no beyond confused, a man who she thought to be a prisoner was bowing before her and speaking some form of Russian. Originally she had planed to scream with such an intensity that their ear drums would burst but know she could only ask what was going on. She moved her lips releasing air bubbles that rose to the surface and released the sound of her voice in to the air. Addressing the convicts, who she had planned to attack but couldn't fathom doing so after that display.
“Your' friend is he alright? Is he having a heat stroke?” Eleri rapped her fist against the glass in front of the weirder one's face to see if he would respond. “I wouldn't suggest hiding from the police here it's not that good of a hiding spot.” She hoped to reason with them in an attempt that they would leave peacefully.

"We're not hiding," He replied, then, more emphatically, "We're not prisoners. ...And none of us are sure what he really is."Maybe this guy was retarded. Did he just say this lady was a goddess? He wasn't sure how to break the news to him, but tough love was all this guy was going to get.

"That's not a goddess, it's some diseased lady in some water." He didn't exactly know how she could breathe underwater, but he tended to ignore things he didn't understand. But he knew his friend would be preoccupied for the remainder of the event. And if they had a fish woman ere, what other kinds of people did they have? After an exasperated sigh, he resigned, "...Just stay here and keep watch," He yanked the hat from his hands and replaced it onto the man's mop of white hair. "DON'T do anything to that tank."

If there was a fish woman here.... what else would he find? He walked away from the tank with one last glance and then continued on his way... wherever. He would just duck into cars. A few were empty, but he knew the ones with locks probably had something or someone in them. So he broke the first lock he saw and went in. "Hello....?"

Post  MOSSAD TRAINED SHARK Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:40 pm

"...." Arash could not keep his eyes away from the fish girl, either. He knew he was not looking at a God, he knew he was looking at a freak. There was no God, but God. This girl was a mutant, that was it. Arash was honestly a little scared. He couldn't turn away, really. She must have had some power over people's minds. It was impolite to stare, as Arash was, but he couldn't stop. Where the strongman moved towards the tank, and the bearman bowed towards it, Arash could only stumble backwards. He'd never seen anything like that. Why would God allow for something like that? Why did she allow everyone to see it? Why was she here? Why didn't she cover her disease? Was this even human? Did it have a soul?

Arash felt very unsettled. He glanced behind him, hoping there wasn't anything else like that 'girl.' No, he was just in the open, it was ridiculous to think like that.

"Zahorchak, do something about it! Come here!" He shouted in Russian, but the man was already inside. Arash crept only his head into the house of freaks. "I don't want to stay here, we have to go! Let's go!" Arash didn't want to be near the mistakes of God. God was not supposed to make mistakes. He walked away, as quickly as possible.

He grabbed the shoulder of Itakshir, pulling him back. "Come on- Don't stare at God's mistakes."

Post  Major Glory Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:48 pm

It was a long and arduous task, being the one of the best dancers in Mystique. Still, it was a task that Alexandria was determined to uphold. She had a reputation to protect, and competition was in her blood, literally and figuratively speaking.

Alex's private wagon was the only place she could find peace and shelter from the expectant crowds and glare of the spotlight. Several incense holders dangled from the ceiling, lazily smoking a variety of scents that were corodinated to compliment each other. The belly dancer was situated at her vanity, putting the finishing touches on her makeup. Not that she needed any, it was just habit from her days as a dancer at clubs. Performing for a circus was repetitive, sure, but it designated time for work and play. Securing a job back in Egypt was tight with competition between dancers and schedules being as they were, and a majority of the clubs were frequented by unsavory foreigners trying to solicit more than just a simple dance.

"Disgusting", she muttered as she dabbed a wet, rosy tint onto her lips. A steady note of hissing echoed from the roomy cage beside her desk. Alexandria turned on her cushion while she adjusted her robe that concealed her sultry costume. "No, no," she cooed affectionately, "I would never talk about you that way~." The Egyptian lowered her arm into the cage, the large python it held glided up her arm and across her shoulders beneath the robe. "Are you ready to wow again, Wadjet?" Slipping on her sequined shoes, Alex opened the door to her cabin and shut it as silently as she could. It was never wise to disturb the freaks on a regular basis; they tended to be less compliant when agitated further by the crude public.

As she sauntered over to the Big Top, Wadjet wriggled on her mantle, a low hiss permeated from the satiny blue fabric. It was uncharacteristically agressive for the reptile to act in such a threatening manner. Petting the serpent through her robe, Alexandria murmured calmly like a mother would to a newborn. "What has upset you so? Is something wrong?" Yes, something was amiss, and she didn't need Wadjet to know that. She had stopped near the tank with the Mermaid Girl, who at the same moment was talking to someone on the other side of the glass. Tip-toeing closer, Alexandria peered from the adjacent end of the glass, it was a group of men. Were they freaks? They certainly weren't dressed like performers, so perhaps hired hands?

"Hello?" She addressed them, trying to sound as disarming as possible. It was times like these she had a guard, but she reasoned that a beast that could crush someone with the approximate weight of a bus wouldn't hurt to have around either. "Are you off duty?" Wadjet slunk around her arm, exposed now as she pet his mottled yellow head.

Eleri was upset now they had, had basically called her god's mistake (as in not a person) and diseased, the “it” part especially hurt. Doing the only thing she could think of Eleri gathered a mouth full of water and rose her head to the top of the tank and sprayed it smack dab between the eyes of the man who had stumbled backwards. Some sort of foundation started running off his face but she couldn't care less, she only submerged back in the water after taking a quick breath. Not caring about the new intruder she sunk to the bottom of the tank to sulk and to nurse her own hurt feelings. Only giving the words "Leave you fucking idiots your not supposed to be here"

They could probably tell him a thousand times over that she wasn't one of his fabled kamuy gods, but it was going in one ear and out through the other. He was like a child that stubbornly refused to believe that Santa was not real.

He heard neither what Cosim nor Arash had said, and he pushed the latter away when he tried to separate the Ainu from what he mistakenly believed to be one of his lost protectors. Still staring towards her in fixed devotion, he sat down cross-legged in front of the tank, the way he used to do in his stilted wooden houses when they gathered around the fireplace to tell stories. He had so many questions and too little time.

"Why are they keeping you here? Is this magic glass? Is that why you can't escape? Where did you go when we needed you? Where did all of the other gods go?" And then, with a whisper, "Are they dead?"

One had to feel sorry for Eleri, there was no way she could know what in the world he was talking about: the oppression he and all Ainu people had felt for hundreds of years. In essence, he was asking her why his race had been abandoned. And in all of his innocent ignorance, he really did expect an answer. The way he looked at her, he had the pleading expression of a child who'd been beaten and wanted to know why his parents had let it happen.

((btw, Ainu people aren't related to Russians, they're just owned by Russia. XD Though the language is distantly related to Basque, lol))

--

Sofia had been returned to her car early, as usual, that night. She could only bump into the enclosed glass walls over and over desperately for so long until she broke down completely and had to be taken away, least she disturb the patrons.

The problem that the management just did not seem to understand or care about was that she was horribly afraid of enclosed spaces. When the reactor exploded, she'd been trapped in the rubble for quite some time before they'd dug her out, her hair all but burnt and her skin peeling away. That sort of thing created a lasting effect in people, and not in a good way. At least in the cars, there were windows and doors--she could deal with that--but while on 'display', she could never find an opening. Without being able to see, it felt like everything was closing in on her, and it made her panic.

But this happened regularly, so she was not surprised to be alone in the car again, while everyone else remained outside. Not that this was really a bad thing. It did, however, surprise her when there was a loud noise (the lock breaking) near the car door, followed by an unfamiliar voice greeting her.

Frightened, she sat up straight, unsure of what was happening. "Who's there...?"

"Hello?"

Arash had heard that, and he jumped a foot backwards. They were caught. They were caught, and that would be the end of things.

He was about to answer her, but then he was squirted in the face. The makeup on his face and eyebrows so quickly smeared and dripped down. His burns and partially missing eyebrows were obvious to the newcomer. Itakshir's hair wasn't completly covered either. They were freaks again, all so quickly. (Well, not freaks to the extent that these mistakes were.)

He didn't know if he wanted to face this woman or not. He took one glance at her. She was pretty. He looked down. Maybe Itakshir should talk to her- well, if Itakshir was out of his trance. Itakshir was good at doing things that women like.

"Yes, yes we are, Miss." What was Zahorchak doing in the freak room? Was he doing anything that could be deemed suspicious? The door to the freaks was open? Was it open when they came here? Was it normal that it was open? "We forgot to feed one of the freaks in here. Mr....Vheeleeam-" he tried to state some English name, but his accent made it sound almost foreign. "he's feeding it now." And how could he explain Itakshir's behavior?

"This-this guy is a new freak." Arash forced a smile, briefly looking up at her. "You see," he grabbed Itakshir's arm again. "He's crazy, dangerous too. He shouldn't be out, so please, go somewhere safe. I would not want to risk your injury."

She was confused her poor beleaguered mind was trying to fathom what the man was saying but all she could think about were the words god's mistake over and over again in her mind like a broken record. She had been taught of god, taught why he had forsaken her parents and left them with an abomination of a child. Unknowingly Arash had unleashed many repressed memories of her early years, the neglect, the mental abuse, and the physical harm in her teens. She was certainly in no condition to respond to anyone's questions so when asked with an expression similar to the one she had only used a decade ago with her family. She gave him the same answer they had given her “Leave me alone.”
It wasn't Itakshir fault but her deep psychological traumas and Arash's careless words. She could only look at Itakshir sadly and say “I just don't know.” before curling up into a tight ball. Desperately wanting to cry and only realizing her genetic defects wouldn't allow her to do so.

((Then prehaps Eleri could understand snippets XD I also read an article the other day that Welsh and Russian shared some minor words and syllables.))

Post  DIDNEY WORL Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:41 pm

He wasn't sure what he was expecting. Some kind of monster, maybe. Something dripping with ectoplasmic guck or maybe another animal person.

But it was a girl... Who he soon realized was blind. Burns and scars were scattered over her skin but... There was just something he couldn't put his finger on that made her beautiful. Maybe, beautiful in that depressing way where one's heart aches at the sight of it, but in so many different ways.

He was speechless for a moment, scouring his thoughts for a suitable explanation of how he wandered into this normal woman's room. "I... I'm..." He found himself unable to lie to those eyes that had to accept so much as truth.

The wounds concerned him, though. Did she get them here? most likely. Disgusting. Sick. Inhumane. The words raced through his head rapidly, and his heart swelled like it did when he was a boy, searching for a reason for his own pain. He had to do something. Maybe it would hinder their plans. Maybe they would be caught. But he couldn't leave this woman there. He also couldn't just run out with her just yet, he would have to keep her close until the other two saboteurs finished their own... Slightly odd business.

So Cosim contented himself with sitting on the rotting wooden floor and watching her. "I'm not going to hurt you." He said right off the bat. He found himself unable to come up with an adequate excuse for why he was there. Truth it was, then. "I'm here with some men from the other carnival..." Then he laughed, trying to put her at ease. "I expected to see a monster in here. I guess I was wrong..."

He was grabbed once again, and this time he didn't fight back. Arm hanging limp where Arash was gripping it, he stared at the woman he was addressing blankly. He wasn't quite sure what was going on anymore. It registered somewhere in his not-so-speedy brain that they were in trouble, but that wasn't what bothered him the most.

He wasn't even putting on a good act to back up the Iranian's lie. He didn't look crazy or dangerous, just upset and confused. A direct contrast to the happy-go-lucky front he normally put up.

And for once, he had nothing to say.

--

In her world of darkness, she had no idea what sort of thoughts and feelings she was generating in the stranger who'd walked into her car. But as soon as he said where he was from, she knew that this could be her chance. Her only chance. She wasn't exactly keen on being part of more carnivals, but anywhere was better than here.

She felt the slightest of vibrations in the floor where he sat down, and used that as a guide. Half-shuffling, half-crawling, she made her way towards him and reached out with one hand. She had to know that it was real. That she hadn't lost her mind and was just hearing voices. Her fingertips brushed against something, and she molded her hand around it. A cheek--no, a jawline. She let out a pent-up breath--it was a real person.

"I expected to see a monster in here. I guess I was wrong..."

Her heart stopped. Or was it actually racing? She wasn't sure. Trembling, voice choked as though she were about to cry (and knowing her, she probably was), she pleaded in the smallest of voices, "Please, take me with you... Please...!" If this opportunity passed her up, she didn't know how she would be able to handle living here anymore, knowing that freedom had slipped through her fingers.

[B&E, Transi/Itak/Iran, public] Empty Re: [B&E, Transi/Itak/Iran, public]

She was about to inquire as to what business they had in this part of the circus, but the Welsh fish-woman interrupted with a sudden splash. Alex covered her face and hair in an attempt to protect her laboriously applied cosmetics. While she remained relatively unscathed (although the thin robe was now soaked), the one man who had spoken up was drenched from head to toe.

"Eleri!" She snapped at the freak, "That was beyond uncalled for! It's no small wonder you get treated badly from others with that attitude!" Glaring daggers at the freak, Alex turned back to the small band of men. "I'm sorry about that; she still hasn't learned not to bite the hands that feed her." Drawing the ruined cloth from her person, she handed it to the soaked man. "Here, clean yourself up; you're a mess and it's cold out." It was worthless now anyways, besides, less was more and wet clothing could make her sick given enough time. Eyeing his burns curiously, she stood back from the white-haired man who was prostrate before the mermaid girl. "If he's a freak, then why is he running freely? What if he hurt someone?" Alex exclaimed, the freaks never ran rampant across the grounds at any time. These fellows must have been newbies.

"Tell your friend to quit slacking off then!" She sighed, exhasperated at their cluelessness. "The freaks can't perform if they're hungry, and we of Mystique have a reputation to live up to!" Alex crossed her arms, looking most displeased. "If you're quite done, I have a show to do. Go to the tent whenever you finish so you can help clean up afterwards; and tell them that Alex sent you if they ask." Shaking her head, the young woman hurried off to her wagon to fetch another coat before she danced at the show.

Arash stared down, even after he was handed the robe. He was ashamed to be discovered like this, by this woman- even if she didn't know what they were up to. She left soon, enough. Arash didn't have much time to think about this encounter. They practically had a VIP pass, but they couldn't risk it anymore, their plans were already screwed up. This was way too close.

Now what was Zahorchak even doing in the freak house? He dragged Itakshir away. Arash was hesitant to enter the freak house, but they had to get out of this place. It was slightly dark, very difficult to see anything, and very eerie. He was holding onto Itakshir, though. Itakshir could fight bears. Arash was safe...or somewhat safe.

He spotted Zahorchak. There was some woman with him. "Zahorchak! We have to go! Come on!" he shouted, much louder than he wanted to. The woman was probably a freak, but as far as Arash could see in the dark, she didn't seem too bad. "Come on!"

She was just so angry, this cunt who called her a mistake, this bitch who gave justification to the mistreatment of poor souls, the boy who looked to her for answers to her problems when she had too many of her own. Eleri felt like like she was about to release a tidal wave of anger upon these ignorant people. What did they know of her, what did they expect her to do, not be a freak? She was human, she did exist, she was meant to be their equals but by a cruel twist of fate she bloody well wasn't. But oh how she prayed to whatever god would listen to the likes of her that she would have her revenge. She wasn't sure how yet, she could expose these men and leave them to likes of twisted women Vienna but that would not take care of Alex.

Uncurling herself, she watched her target leave, plotting all the while, yes she would get hers, ten fold. With her webbed hand pressed to glass, she looked at Arash, with such a stare that looked like to pierce his soul. He thought he was worth her time and effort that he was better than her. She turned away hopeless and dejected. Singing her song about a poor rejected maiden in her native tongue.

song lyrics:

((sorry I don't mean to be posting such sad things be it would be out of character otherwise))

Everything was happening too fast-- he heard his name called, and he turned away from her for one moment. When he turned back, her hand was on his face and she was begin him to take her with him.

When in doubt, he just followed orders. She didn't even have shoes, so her walking was out of the question. He didn't even have time to say anything before he scooped her up all too easily in his arms. She was so small, it was no wonder she was being abused here.

He ran out to mee his comrades like nothing else was wrong, only telling them a, "What are you waiting for?" Before walking back to the fence. He didn't pick up on Arash's distress or Itakshir's... Whatever he was going through.

"Come on!"

Even though the command hadn't been directed at him, it seemed to be what finally broke him out of his daze. Looking around, he went back to smiling with some effort, "We messed up already? That was fast, haha..."

He pried his arm out of Arash's grasp, but made it clear that he wasn't going anywhere without the other two. With one last backward glance, he bowed respectfully again to the girl in the tank before following Cosim back to the fence.

Noticing the stolen girl he was carrying, who clung to him like she would fall a thousand feet if she dropped, he couldn't help but laugh. How ironic; this whole thing had started out from looking for a woman he'd like, and what did he find? Not only that, but what better way to collect information than by taking home a witness? Someone hit the jackpot.

"You weren't kidding when you said you're good with 'intelligence' work."

It seemed the other two didn't object to adding a fourth to the trip back. As gently as he picked her up, he put her down to pry the fence open again, some of the metal cutting into his hands. Cosim picked the woman up again and got onto the other side. Maybe he would leave the fence open, if tree were more people trapped there like her.

What Itakshir said he had to laugh at. "Who says it's 'intelligent'?" So true. He had no idea what he was doing, stealing a human being.

Getting there, they had borrowed one of the carnival's rickety old cars. Arash was tue only one capable of driving at this point, as it seemed wrong to leave a blind person alone with strangers, so he put her in the back seat and got in with her. What would he do when he got back? What would everyone else say about what he'd done?
