Sher Durrani
Human Name : Sher (Shirin) Durrani
Country/City/State/Province representing: Afghanistan
Human age: 17, but claims she is 15.
Gender: Bacha Posh, (dressed up as a boy) female, but says she is male
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual
Carnival alliance: Ragtags
Special Skills or Talents: She dabbles in a sort of mysticism (Which she does commercialize for this theatre), telling fortunes, warding off the evil eye, giving blessings, etc. She really does not have the credentials to do this, but Americans are ignorant, so claims she does.
Role in Carnival and how it relates to the history of your character: There are a lot of superstitions among Afghans. It is a society that is strongly based on tradition. Some people do believe that interactions with the spiritual world, God, and the Quran can change one's future. (Sometimes, old Zoroastrian methods are used, though.) There has always been a lot of mysticism in Afghanistan. Some of the greatest Sufis- including the one who was arguably the greatest, Rumi, came from Afghanistan.
Appearance (please include a short detailed paragraph or picture): It is not very difficult for Shirin to look boyish. Her very dark brown hair is cropped short. Never having many curves to begin with, she can bound her already small breasts, and her body does not reveal her gender. She looks a little tired, with dulled down features, but her light brown eyes are still very striking.
Special personal items: She brings her Quran with her, and brings a Burqa, just in case.
Anything Else: Though she does not still need to be a boy, she feels as if she needs to. As a woman she feels confined, and being a boy is really most comfortable for her.
AU Background history: Shirin was always raised to be independent, but often had trouble finding a way to do so. She grew up pretty isolated from her father, mostly with just a mother. She turned to the tradition of bacha posh, (an Afghan tradition of gender fluidity, where a family, if without sons, can have one of their girl children raised as a boy, until they hit puberty.) Later on, the family went through a lot of difficulties, and Shirin was married off to a much older and abusive man. She lost a lot of her independence, and lived with him as his house wife. He was arrested one day, for involvement in criminal activities. Shirin was going to get in a lot of trouble with his family, but she was willing to take it. But of course, just as this was happening, Timur (Half brother on mother's side) was also leaving. He didn't really care much for Shirin, but kind of hated her husband and his family, so he brought her along to America with him. (Northern Alliance supported by many Uzbeks.)
But wanting little do with her, he dumped her off as soon as she came. Shirin looked for work, but found it difficult because of her English, abilities and gender. Though a little older than before, she donned the Bacha Posh tradition again. Somewhere in her search for work, she saw a sign for the carnival. Her other half brother (From her father's side) Arash was on it, so she joined.
((New character, she is open for changes. :/))
