Post  nahn-SEK-wuh-tuhr Sat Mar 26, 2011 2:12 am

WELLLLLLL, babby's doing vignettes (GO READ HOW CUTE IT IS--/shot), so why not. :I I think I've established by now what a poetry faggot I am--I don't, by any means, consider myself a poet, but I sometimes write for fun. XD SO HERE WE GO:

The Vanity
(For Franze)

The blossoms of May will eventually scatter
But she was to be a June bride
Oh, you can forget hunger, she says,
just like you can forget many other debilitating things
(It’s all in the technique—
trompe l’esprit!)
For it’s a fool that falls to fatalism;
in the dynasty of wilting flowers
and weeping willows
and her dreams of cheating time
before time could even catch up to her
But she could see it, behind her shoulder,
when she broke the mirror, screaming—
“You’re not prettier than me!”

Notes: 'the blossoms will eventually scatter' = ref to a poem called 'Iroha', about the fleeting nature of beauty; flowers and willows = ref to 'the flower and willow world', the world of beauty

Thought Process
(for Piter)

There’s this saying I’ve heard
(or I think I’ve heard)
about how the best-laid plans can fail
To which he shakes his head—
obviously I don’t have a clue
Because he’s been Enlightened,
he’s seen the Revolution
of both Science and Soviets
and saw only potential
The coups of yesteryear,
the hit of yesterday…
That was no accident, my friend
All according to plan,
all according to plan…
Because even when you fail,
you never really fail—
it only creates a slightly smaller
(Not nonexistent!)
window of opportunity
“There’s only one thing that matters,
(just one thing!):
you have to dare!

Whispers from the Grave
(A message from Sofia to Cosim, in WHE)

Oh you know, my darling,
it’s a long way down from that ledge
and I won’t always be there to catch you
Oh, you say day and night you’ve often thought
how tired you are of living
But don’t you know, my love—
when you’re tired, just lie down
and take a rest and I’ll whisper:
it’ll be okay, it’ll be okay
Someday, you’ll get up again,
and if not, you’ll get some sleep
Because you know, Cosim,
this is only the game we play,
the song we dance,
the story we sing
And you and I, together,
we wove something beautiful

(...For the record, I wrote the 'tired of living' line before I remembered that topic actually entitled 'Tired' in WHE--then I went back to check it for something...and just cried and cried when I connected it. :I)

TRUE ART IS ANGSTY. /shot
...I have some semblance of how to judge myself on art, but not on poetry, so I honestly have no idea if these are any good or not. :I But like I said, it was just for fun. XD Don't judge me too harshly--/sob May/may not put up more later, I really don't know. XD

fffff Thank youuuuu <3 <3 <3 ...And it would be a lie if I said I didn't cry while conceptualizing the last one. :'I Mostly because of how sorry I felt for Transi--it was inspired by how he was kind of losing it and hearing things and whatnot. /sob

YOU MAKE ME FEEL BAD FOR ARASH KILLING COSIM IN THAT TIRED POST.

Blargh, couldn't sleep last night, ended up writing this. Uhhh...originally it was supposed to be for Arash, but somehow it became about refugees. :I Sorry, idek how it happened. XD

Warning: WANGST AHEAD, PROCEED WITH CAUTION

Refugees
"When did you come here?"
The real question is:
"What did you see?"
I was raised on the stories,
the answers to this question;
'10 years old'
'lost everything'
'witnessed the death'
'never forget'
It's a common malady,
the inability to forget
And we've yet to find a cure
When one talks of revolution,
when one whispers of war,
when one murmurs of childhood,
it must be followed by:
"I'll never forget"
When we speak of our land,
it must be with love
and sorrow
and the indelible memories
Fruit trees and courtyards,
shepherds and old women,
a world untouched;
the one we don't forget
We return like shellshocked veterans,
arriving on foreign shores:
"What is this place?"
It's the country you left,
the one you didn't forget
We walk like zombies:
the living dead in a murdered world,
lost in the streets we once called home
And we look around, confused,
for this place is not the same
as the one we didn't forget,
as the one we continued to love
And then we despair,
because the one forgotten
is us.

I normally enjoy writing character deaths/tragedies, but I have never cried so much rping--Arash is what did it for me. :( I think because just the thought of something happening to my little brother makes me despair like nothing else. IT WAS TOO INTENSE FOR ME, MAN, TOO INTENSE--/weep endlessly

SOB, YES. Sibling and family deaths get me the most. ): I love my little sister soooo much-- so trying to put myself in Arash's shoes for rping that, IT WAS TOO MUCH. I don't think I've only ever cried like that 2 other times in my life. I CAN'T JUST RP SOMETHING LIKE THAT WITHOUT BAWLING SO HARD.

Hnnnnnnng, I was listening to 'Daniel' by Elton John (which is already a super sad song for my family) in the car this morning and almost started crying on the way to school, because certain lines make me think of Mirza and Arash. :'I I keep wanting to do something about them in the Constitutional Revolution--I think Mirza would have really looked up to Arash back then/tried to emulate him.

fjkdgkjg ): /SOB, I should listen to that song-- So I can weep as well.

FFFF- God, I need to do something about the Constitutional Revolution. I am the worst tegakier ever. Now that I think of it, I never even made a post about the Iranian Revolution. :l I just make posts about unnecessary things. It's just too much work to do big events--- /shot

But awwww, I find that so adorable. I really do love their relationship so much. <3 I imagine Arash would be very honoured by his little bro- but I'm not sure if he would express that very well.

I know exactly what you mean; for example, I still have yet to do an entry for the Chernobyl plant meltdown itself. I have it all planned, just haven't done it. :I Like you said, big events are too much work. XD

I think Mirza would understand, in his own way. I think they would probably get each other more than others would, since they're quite similar. ...The primary difference being that Mirza failed his revolution and Arash didn't. /shot But actually, in the book I just got, they described Kuchik Khan as the "unsuccessful precursor to Khomeini", which I find interesting; for some reason, I never thought of it that way before. :/

I haven't even thought of making an Iranian Revolution entry until I just realized now that I never made one. :l I assume people just know, I guess? I don't even know.

He tried his best. U_U That is all that matters. /shot Ffff, even if Mirza wasn't successful, his effort would still get some admiration from Arash. (Admiration in a big to little brother sense.) Ohh, I never even considered that analogy either. :/ But I guess it is fitting- and to extend that to Arash and Mirza's relation, would create a very strong sense of understanding each other. <3

More poetry--I have been working on this one for...at least two months now, I think. :I Mirza's in it, but it's mostly for Arash (it's not set during any particular time period/revolution, btw).

Morde Parast
(for Arash)
BANG
One for the revolution
BANG
Two for the revolution
Reload, aim, count:
how many for the revolution?
(It's strange, the raw power
of raw ideals)
Arash, he points to the latest casualty,
Who do you think that was?
Did he love? Was he happy?

But it's too late to know the tale
of the nameless, faceless number.
BANG
He's dust now. Just dust.
The dust we tread upon,
the dust we become.

BANG
A smile.
Dust of who? Irandust?
BANG
Arash, have you heard?
BANG
The reddest tulips sprout
from the dust of Iran.

BANG
Brother, can you spare the keys?
I'm going to search for heaven's gate,
I'm going to search for paradise
For ideals come at a heavy price--
pray, don't follow me when I go.
BANG BANG BANG...
The dust clears, the seeds sown,
yek, do, se, char, panj,
one, two, many for the revolution,
too many for my ideals
La la lai lai lai,
la la lai lai...

A flower was lost, and the thorn remained;
the oppression remained for me...
La la lai lai lai,
la la lai lai...

Years have passed, and the tulips grew back,
but the oppression remained for me
La la lai lai lai,
la la lai lai...

The tulips wilted, and the dust blew away,
still, the oppression remains for me

Notes:
•"Morde parast" means roughly to 'support the dead'--as in, to celebrate people/their ideals only once they've died (like martyrs).
•'Dust' is a symbol in Persian poetry for the remains of the dead, and is also a Romanization of the word in Farsi for 'friend' ('Irandust' literally meaning 'friend of Iran').
•In Shi'a beliefs, tulips sprout where martyrs' blood is spilt. Tulips are also a symbol of Iran.
•'La la lai lai' is something commonly hummed by Persian mothers when singing lullabies, as can be heard here.
"A Flower was Lost" is another Persian lullaby.
